The Department of Skill Development (DSD) under the Ministry of Labour in Thailand has joined hands with Microsoft Thailand to launch the THAI Academy initiative. This collaboration aims to enhance AI skills development among Thai workers and job seekers. The initiative targets to upskill 100,000 individuals in AI to equip them for the changing job market and to boost Thailand’s global competitiveness in the digital economy.
Recognizing the pivotal role of AI in economic growth and labor market transformation, Mr. Dechar Peukpattanaruk, the Director General of the Department of Skill Development, emphasized the significance of partnering with Microsoft Thailand. This collaboration with a global leader in AI technology is seen as a crucial step in empowering the Thai workforce to meet the demands of the market and enhance their international competitiveness.
The THAI Academy initiative sets a goal to upskill over 1 million Thais in AI by 2025. This includes training approximately 100,000 workers and job seekers across Thailand through the DSD’s 77 training centers. The curriculum, delivered in Thai by Microsoft experts, is designed to be practical and applicable to real-world work settings.
So far, more than 40,000 individuals have engaged in the training program, with over 16,000 successfully completing it and receiving certifications. These participants include workers trained by DSD instructors, individuals undertaking self-paced online training, and officials nationwide. The initiative is expected to cultivate a culture of continuous learning, essential for the country’s sustainable growth.
Employers with a staff count of 100 or more who offer AI training using DSD-certified courses can take advantage of the Skill Development Promotion Act B.E. 2545 (A.D. 2002). This allows employers to deduct 100% of training expenses from their taxes, promoting employee skill development and enhancing workforce productivity in Thailand.
Individuals keen on developing AI skills and exploring new career opportunities can participate in the THAI Academy project. Detailed information and registration guidelines are available on the project’s website and through the DSD Online Training platform.
The collaboration between the Department of Skill Development and Microsoft Thailand signifies a strategic move towards fostering a skilled AI workforce in Thailand. This initiative not only addresses the current industry demands but also prepares the workforce for future technological advancements, setting a strong foundation for the country’s long-term development.
