Surf Life Saving Australia’s National Leadership College (NLC) recently brought together 24 surf lifesavers from Australia and New Zealand in Sydney for a week-long program. This initiative, running for over 30 years, focuses on developing leadership skills for members aged between 20 and 30, challenging them intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically.
The NLC provided a platform for emerging leaders to engage with various guest speakers and participate in workshops covering topics like leadership, mental health, growth mindset, communication, and relationship building. Notable speakers included Shane Fitzsimmons AO AFSM, Dr. Diana Chan, Tom Downie, and Adam Weir, the CEO of Surf Life Saving Australia.
Weir emphasized the importance of the NLC in nurturing young leaders within the organization and fostering a sense of unity and purpose across different states and territories. The event aimed to equip participants with skills to lead effectively within Surf Life Saving and potentially advance to higher roles within the organization.
Nancy Joseph, Chair of Development at Surf Life Saving Australia, echoed the significance of leadership programs in shaping the future of the movement.
