In 1960, Frank, an Italian immigrant, ventured to North Queensland, envisioning it as a land of promise. Today, his family still holds that belief, seeing Queensland as a realm of opportunities. The Queensland Government echoes this sentiment, striving to uphold and expand these prospects by initiating a significant investment in education.
Revealed through the 2025-26 Budget, Queensland is embarking on its most extensive special school investment to date, aiming to cater to students with higher support needs. This initiative seeks to provide tailored teaching and learning environments to foster the thriving development of these students.
Six new special schools are slated for construction in South East Queensland to address the mounting demand for enrollment and to enhance the educational support for Queensland children. These schools, located in areas like Central Logan, Beenleigh, and Coomera, will collectively accommodate up to 800 students.
The $1.09 billion investment, a part of the Education Budget, encompasses the establishment of 15 new schools in Queensland’s rapidly expanding communities. Notably, this allocation includes the creation of new primary schools in Caloundra South and Ripley Valley, alongside a new high school in Gracemere.
As part of the educational enhancements, the Queensland Government introduces the $100 Back to School Boost, targeting students from Prep to Year 6. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on families by assisting with the costs of school essentials such as books, stationery, devices, and uniforms, in addition to extracurricular activities like sports and the arts.
Expressing the government’s commitment to providing the necessary infrastructure for the youth, Premier David Crisafulli emphasized the significance of affording every child an equitable start in life. The Premier stressed the importance of parental choice in selecting the most suitable educational path for their children, underlining the government’s dedication to eradicating educational disparities.
Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek highlighted the strategic investment in specialized facilities to support students effectively. By empowering students with disabilities to excel in environments tailored to their needs, the government aims to foster a conducive learning atmosphere that nurtures growth and success.
