A new eLearning platform has been introduced to enhance veterans’ healthcare, offering CPD-accredited training to aid GPs in delivering quality care to veterans and their families. This initiative comes as a collaboration between the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) and Medcast, aiming to provide comprehensive resources for health practitioners.
The VETs HeLP service offers interactive learning opportunities facilitated by experts in veteran healthcare. The platform includes CPD-accredited courses, webinars, and case scenarios, all designed to equip health professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to address the unique healthcare needs of veterans.
Associate Professor Stephen Barnett, the Medical Director at Medcast, emphasizes the platform’s role in supporting the government’s commitment to long-term veteran support. He highlights the crucial role of health professionals in the veteran Transition Ecosystem, a priority outlined in the 2023 Veteran Transition Strategy.
VETs HeLP focuses on key areas such as the veteran experience, mental health, services for veterans and their families, and compensation and claims processing. This tailored education is essential in bridging the gap between general practitioners and the specific needs of veteran patients.
Dr. Catherine Eltringham, a GP with expertise in veterans’ health, praises the platform for its contribution to improving care for veteran patients. She acknowledges the value of the educational resources available on VETs HeLP in enhancing healthcare providers’ understanding and skills.
Recognizing the challenges veterans face in accessing appropriate healthcare, Medcast emphasizes the importance of targeted education for healthcare professionals. The platform aims to enhance practitioners’ competencies and ultimately improve health outcomes for veterans.
The first webinar on ‘Understanding our veterans’ healthcare’ is scheduled for July 10, offering further insights into the unique healthcare needs of veterans. Health professionals can access the VETs HeLP platform for additional information and resources to support their practice.
Overall, the introduction of this eLearning platform marks a significant step towards enhancing veterans’ healthcare services and ensuring that healthcare providers are well-prepared to meet the specific needs of veteran patients and their families.
