The 20th Energy Efficiency Policy Training Week, organized by the International Energy Agency (IEA), is a significant global event that has been equipping government officials worldwide with the necessary tools and knowledge to implement effective energy efficiency policies since 2015. With over 3,000 officials from more than 125 countries benefiting from these training weeks, the event plays a crucial role in advancing the goal of doubling energy efficiency by 2030 while enhancing people’s lives. This training initiative is spearheaded by the IEA’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Inclusive Transitions, fostering an international community of energy efficiency practitioners.
The format of the Training Week comprises five parallel courses focusing on energy efficiency in buildings, appliances, industry, transport, and indicators and evaluation. These courses combine lectures, interactive discussions, practical exercises, and joint sessions to facilitate knowledge sharing and learning from international best practices. Participants, primarily energy efficiency policy makers, gain hands-on experience and the opportunity to network with colleagues globally, enhancing their expertise in advancing energy efficiency policies.
Each course track offers tailored content to address specific areas of energy efficiency policies. The Buildings track covers a wide range of topics related to energy efficiency in buildings, emphasizing the transition to net zero emissions and the development of national roadmaps. The Appliances and Equipment track prepares participants to design and implement effective appliance energy efficiency policies. The Industry track equips participants with the skills to implement energy efficiency programmes across various industry sectors. The Transport track focuses on improving vehicle energy efficiency, particularly through electrification. The Indicators and Evaluation track provides insights on using data to develop and evaluate energy efficiency policies.
The Training Week’s schedule includes panel discussions with ambassadors and policy makers setting the stage for the week, followed by track-based training sessions and activities focused on implementing learned skills and promoting energy efficiency. Participants engage in group work exercises, networking opportunities, and discussions on practical strategies to enhance energy efficiency.
All training courses are conducted in English, and proficiency in the language is a prerequisite for participation. While there is no attendance fee, participants are responsible for covering their travel and accommodation costs. Applications for the Training Week are processed through an online portal on the IEA website, with successful applicants notified via email.
The 20th Energy Efficiency Policy Training Week represents a pivotal platform for advancing global energy efficiency goals and fostering collaboration among energy efficiency practitioners worldwide. Through knowledge sharing, practical exercises, and networking opportunities, this event continues to play a vital role in shaping effective energy efficiency policies for a sustainable future.
