The roots of ESA trace back to the establishment of ESRO and ELDO in the 1960s, setting the stage for Europe’s significant presence in space exploration. The formation of ESA in 1975 consolidated these efforts, leading to a series of groundbreaking missions that have not only expanded scientific knowledge but also inspired generations worldwide.

The course curriculum delves into ESA’s evolution, from its inception with ESRO and ELDO to its current global impact in space exploration, education, and cooperation. Participants will explore topics such as European space policy evolution, legal aspects of space activities, public engagement strategies, and future challenges in the space sector.

One of the highlights of the training is a mock ministerial exercise, providing participants with hands-on experience in high-level space policy discussions. The comprehensive schedule covers themes like the history of space exploration, ESA’s governance structure, milestone missions, legal implications of space activities, and the role of the International Space Station in fostering collaboration.

Eligible applicants must be university students from ESA Member States or select countries, studying social science disciplines. Selected students will receive full sponsorship from ESA, covering workshop expenses and travel costs. Upon completion, participants will receive certificates and course transcripts, allowing them to seek academic credits from their universities.
