The Australian Computer Society (ACS) and CPA Australia have joined forces to enhance career opportunities for professionals in the IT and finance sectors by aligning their credentials and qualifications. With ACS representing nearly 50,000 technology experts in Australia and CPA Australia catering to certified practising accountants, this collaboration aims to co-design training programs and thought leadership initiatives to bolster skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, IT financial procurement, ethics, and cryptography management.
According to ACS CEO Josh Griggs, the integration of technology skills like AI and cybersecurity has become imperative in the accounting profession. This partnership will also involve CPA Australia members in ACS’ collaboration with Cyberknowledge, a risk management and compliance firm, to equip accounting professionals with the necessary tools to enhance cyber resilience in small-to-medium businesses. Moreover, incorporating the ACS SFIA framework into CPA Australia’s continuous learning program will ensure that accounting professionals possess the technological competencies demanded by today’s economy.
CPA Australia CEO Chris Freeland emphasized the shared interests of both organizations, highlighting the importance of future-proofing the global workforce through initiatives like skilled migration, educational program accreditations, and skill capability development programs. Recognizing AI as a transformative technology, Freeland stressed the need for professionals to use AI effectively and ethically. By leveraging their networks of subject matter experts, CPA Australia and ACS plan to develop training programs that educate finance, accounting, and IT professionals on the ethical and efficient utilization of AI.
Through collaborative efforts, the two organizations aim to create specialized streams that enhance professionals’ skill capabilities at the intersection of technical and financial literacy. Recent partnerships by ACS, such as agreements with the federal government’s Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) and global IT association ISACA, demonstrate a commitment to fostering innovation and skill development in the ever-evolving landscape of technology and finance.
As the digital era continues to shape the demands of the workforce, initiatives like the alignment of credentials between ACS and CPA Australia reflect a strategic approach to equipping professionals with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of modern business environments. By bridging the gap between IT and finance, this collaboration sets a precedent for future industry partnerships that prioritize the holistic development of professionals in an increasingly interconnected world.
