With significant funding from the Federal and Victorian State Governments, Melbourne Polytechnic developed the Centre in collaboration with industry partners. The first course, ‘Rethinking Construction – Introduction to Modern Methods of Construction,’ offers insights into prefabrication and modular construction techniques.

Through short courses, micro-credentials, and full qualifications, the Centre plans to integrate modern construction techniques into training pathways. It envisions a national impact, offering programs that can be adopted by TAFEs and other educational institutions across Australia.
Supported by industry partnerships, including prefabAUS, MBAV, and HIA, the Centre aims to promote diversity in the modern construction sector. Plans are underway to construct a showcase facility at the Heidelberg campus, serving as a national model for modern construction practices.
The Centre’s evolution will see the development of hands-on learning hubs and collaboration spaces for industry players, educators, and students. Construction of the facility is set to commence in 2026, showcasing state-of-the-art training facilities and research spaces.
