The University of Nebraska has named sixteen faculty members from its various campuses as participants in the NU DEAL program, designed to cultivate future leaders in higher education. This intensive two-year initiative aims to enhance leadership skills, expand networks, and address critical issues in academia. Among the selected fellows are four distinguished faculty members from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).
Dr. Julie Blaskewicz Boron, Dr. Brian Dorn, Dr. Beth Leader-Janssen, and Dr. Jody Neathery-Castro have been chosen as UNO’s representatives in the program. These individuals were selected based on their outstanding contributions to the university and their commitment to advancing its mission. According to UNO’s Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Phil He, the selected fellows embody the qualities necessary to make a meaningful impact within the NU System.
Throughout the program, participants will engage with key stakeholders, receive guidance from system leaders, and explore various aspects of academic leadership. The curriculum will cover strategic planning, financial management, infrastructure development, and other relevant topics in higher education. By fostering a deeper understanding of the NU System, the program aims to prepare faculty members for senior leadership roles.
Dr. H. Dele Davies, UNMC interim chancellor, emphasized the program’s focus on developing visionary leaders capable of driving lasting change in a dynamic educational landscape. NU DEAL aims to equip participants with advanced leadership skills and strategic thinking abilities, empowering them to navigate complex challenges in the academic sphere.
In addition to UNO, faculty members from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and University of Nebraska at Kearney have been selected as NU DEAL fellows. Each cohort represents a diverse range of disciplines, reflecting the program’s commitment to fostering leadership across various academic domains.
Looking ahead, applications for the next cohort of NU DEAL fellows will open in the spring, offering faculty members the opportunity to engage in this transformative leadership development experience. By continuing to invest in leadership development initiatives like NU DEAL, the University of Nebraska reaffirms its commitment to nurturing talent and fostering innovation in higher education.
As one of the premier metropolitan universities in Nebraska, UNO prides itself on providing quality education and fostering community engagement. With a rich history spanning over a century, UNO remains dedicated to excellence in both academic pursuits and community service. By participating in programs like NU DEAL, UNO faculty members continue to uphold the university’s legacy of leadership and innovation.
