The World Health Organization’s Local Production & Assistance Unit, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has announced the launch of the fifth Virtual cGMP Training Marathon for Vaccine Manufacturing. This initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of Member States in producing quality vaccines, ensuring global health security and equitable access.
Access to quality vaccines is crucial for effective health systems and national immunization programs, especially in low- and middle-income countries facing challenges with imports. Strengthening local production is vital to address these issues and ensure consistent vaccine availability.
Since 2020, the WHO LPA Unit has organized four successful Virtual cGMP Training Marathons, enhancing the knowledge and readiness of vaccine manufacturers worldwide. This year’s event, themed “Institutionalizing Compliance and Continued Improvement,” will focus on sustaining GMP compliance and promoting a culture of quality enhancement.
The 2024 training aims to assist LMICs in enhancing their vaccine manufacturing capabilities by providing insights into current GMP standards, regulatory updates, and technological advancements. The goal is to empower manufacturers and regulators to meet international quality standards effectively.
The Virtual cGMP Training Marathon will cover various crucial topics, including bio-analytical method development, quality risk management, process validation, and technology transfer essentials. These sessions will be conducted virtually twice a week from September 10th to October 10th, 2024, combining theoretical lectures with practical exercises and case studies.
Professionals involved in vaccine, biological, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, particularly from LMICs, are encouraged to participate in the training. By attending, participants can enhance their skills, stay updated on regulatory changes, and implement robust quality management systems. Registration is required, with priority given to eligible participants from LMICs and those with plans for WHO prequalification.
To register for the training and express interest in participating, professionals can visit the registration link before the deadline on September 6th, 2024. Selected participants will receive a confirmation email with further details. For additional inquiries, individuals can reach out to the LPA Unit Secretariat at localproduction@who.int.
This training initiative underscores the importance of compliance and continuous improvement in vaccine manufacturing, aligning with global efforts to strengthen health systems and ensure access to quality vaccines for all populations.
